What You Will Learn With Our Vancouver Bass Instructors
Left Hand Fretting & Touch
We'll teach you how to use your left hand to fret the strings and create different notes and chords. You'll learn how to develop a delicate touch and control the pressure on the strings for different sounds and effects, such as creating vibrato or bending notes
Plucking, picking and slap
We'll teach you how to use your right hand to pick and slap the strings. You'll learn different techniques such as alternate picking, tremolo, and slap bass to add variety and expressiveness to your playing. Additionally, you will learn how to use different right hand techniques such as fingerstyle, hybrid picking and palm muting to create different sounds and grooves.
Fretboard Mastery
We'll teach you how to navigate the fretboard like a pro! You'll learn how to find any note, chord or scale quickly and easily, and how to use this knowledge to improvise, compose and play solos. Additionally, you will learn how to use different scales and modes, and how to create and use your own licks and phrases.

Articulation & Tone
We'll teach you how to play with expression and feeling! You'll learn techniques such as vibrato, slides, and bends to add expression and emotion to your playing. Additionally, you will learn how to use dynamics, phrasing, and timing to add more expression and emotion to your playing.
Improvisation & Soloing
We'll teach you how to create and perform new music on the fly, whether through improvisation or composing original songs. This skill includes understanding music theory, chord progressions, and song structure to compose original songs. Additionally, you will learn how to use different techniques such as call-and-response, pentatonic scales and modal improvisation to create new melodies and harmonies.
Reading Music
The ability to read sheet music and understand musical notation. This skill includes the ability to read and interpret sheet music, including rhythm, melody, harmony and dynamics. It also includes being able to sight-read, which means playing a piece of music without prior practice.
Performance & Audition Preperation
The ability to prepare and deliver polished and professional performances or auditions. This skill includes the ability to practice and prepare a performance, including timing, stage presence and overall presentation. It also includes the ability to handle nerves and stay focused during the performance, and to make quick adjustments if necessary.
Extended Tecniques
Learn unconventional or experimental methods to produce unique sounds and add versatility to your playing. This skill includes techniques such as finger-tapping and harmonics, as well as unconventional playing styles such as percussive fingerstyle, and the use of extended range instruments or alternative tunings. Additionally, you will learn how to use effects pedals, loopers and other electronic devices to create new sounds and textures in your playing.
